Summers usually bring many bee-eaters to our area. But with more apartments coming up, I’ve only seen a few this year. I hope today’s sighting is a sure sign of more to follow….
The Oriental magpie-robin is a commonly seen around our parts. Here’s the male perched on the wires….
…and a female on a coconut tree. The female is a dull grey whereas the contrasting colours on the male truly stand out.
A pair of white-breasted water hens have new members. Here’s one of the chicks. Below is a shot of the same chick with its mother (partly hidden by a wild turmeric leaf) and sibling.

i love the mask n the bee eater. A Magpie-Robim, what is with that??? Is it a cross between a robin and a magpie, did these two mate once upon a time? Or is it just another type of Magpie, are there different kinds I thought there was only one?
Those Bee-eaters are pretty impressive birds.Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
I love that bee eater …you do see quite a few birds I must say!

All great photos but the bee eater is especially interesting – it looks to be quite a different color from the ones I see around here in Queensland, Australia.
I love the Bee eater. A smashing bird. Great shots.
I think I’m in love with that adorable chick!!!

You have some wonderful wildlife… many thanks for sharing.
an Oriental magie-robin; what a wonderful combo! Also loving the (rainbow) bee-eater photograph
Love the bee-eaters, they are beautiful. Great collection of birds to share with WBW.
Oh we have that oriental magpie robin always with us, in fact they roost under our eaves and has been there for many years. I just haven’t seen where they nest. So they are bee-eaters? I thought they just eat seeds and larvae!
It looks as though we have all fallen for the Bee-eater! What a stunning bird.
Lovely pictures. I had to look up how Bee eating birds managed to avoid getting stung – not the easiest of insects to subdue!
Those little chicks with their big ‘feet’ look kind of cute. Great shots!
