Today’s Flowers

Oxalis…this plant, with its amazing power of invasiveness, seems to be popping up everywhere. These dainty blooms are from the container of the ornamental pineapple. Tiny skippers and the Common Mormon swallowtails love them!

A Psyche butterfly on an egg-plant bloom. Psyches fly close to the ground and they never seem to be still. I’m glad it chose this bloom to sit on.

Nice photo. Since it is invasive, is it a weed? It’s the weed season. 🙂

The butterfly on the eggplant flower is fantastic!

  3. Brava!! Brava!! Stunning photograph with the butterfly! I do not recall those thorns on the stem of eggplant. Wow! Excellent. I love seeing it blown up. The colors are so incredible. ;>)

Carol, thank you so much! I wanted to post less vibrant colours today as a symbolism for the soon-to-be-here-cooler weather. So even the butterfly became a part of that symbolism;) Most varieties of egg-plant have thorns. at least the ones that we grow here. This bloom belongs to the round variety.

  4. Oh, my!! The second picture is great! So delicate and lovely! I don’t think i’ve ever seen a psyche, you even captured the stripes on the antenna, and he must be very small!! The bloom is so lovely, and I’m noticing that is has small prickers on the stem!

Ginny, the psyche is a tiny butterfly found here in India and in south-east Asia. It flies close to the ground and its movement is weak. Even if there are no other butterflies around, you’re most likely to see the psyche in our parts. As for the thorns, most egg-plants have them.

I’ve never seen a butterfly like that one Kanak.

I’m not a big fan of eggplant but I think their blooms are lovely.

  7. Stephanie says:

Love the oxalis purple blooms! The usual ones are in white here. The leaves are either purple or green. What’s the colour of your leaves?

  8. A lovely post, Kanak. I’m just off to read about the Common Mormon butterfly … quite new to me.
