Today’s Flowers/Shrimp Plant

The Shrimp plant

This pot of coral and green sits on the balcony next to our bedroom. I know it looks a little gangly now which means I’ll need to trim it soon. The plant is named so because of the colourful bracts that resemble a shrimp. The actual flowers are white, tongue-like, and tiny. You can see some of the fallen blooms in this photo. This Mexican native, botanically known as Justicia brandegeana, is popular gardens here. There are other cultivars but this one and the cream/yellow ones are usually seen.

Por aqui temos muito destas plantas que chamamos de camarão. O vaso está lindo!

Don’t think I have ever seen a Shrimp Plant before … quite handsome, Kanak!

  4. I have one that’s much shorter but orange. Every time I wanted to prune the plant, I can’t do so as the bracts are still there…But I think you are right. Have to just prune for a better display. Lovely plant 😉

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen this plant before. It looks very pretty indeed.

  6. That is a beautiful plant.
