Today’s Flowers/From Smita’s Garden

Yesterday I spent a most pleasant day at my friend Smita’s. Regular readers of my blog might remember the several pictures I had posted of her house as well as her garden earlier. The first thing you notice as you step on the veranda is the aloe vera in bloom. Striking, don’t you think? Beyond the expanse of the lawn there’s a pond visited by many kinds of birds.

There were many poinsettia plants turning red. This is the one that’s commonly seen in gardens and waysides. Most people also plant them as hedges and they grow nearly eight feet tall. These are from one of Smita’s several plants.

Smita has a wonderful collection of bougainvilleas but this shade isn’t so common. In the background you can see the marigold beds  in a blaze of yellow. I must add here that we later went into the house where a most delicious spread was waiting for us….

Love the aloe bloom-though its not true aloe vera, looks like some sort of aloe cross, from the leaves maybe spider aloe or arborescens.
